To me the most impressive thing about Janet Payne's
Bible Exploration Notebook on Luke is something that seems unimpressive
at first glance: The studies ask just the right questions to
get student and teacher to explore the biblical text
on its own terms. This seems like something simple to do.
As a former pastor who has led his share of Bible studies, I
know it is not. But Payne has managed to do it chapter after
chapter.

Our department is always on the look out for Bible studies
for International students at an intermediate language level.
Janet Payne's Bible Exploration Workbooks: Luke's Ancient Biography
of Jesus is a great addition to our resource list. She drew from
her experience as an ESL instructor in bringing the theory and
best practices of second-language reading together with a modified
manuscript Bible study method. Her workbook builds skills while
keeping the focus on the Bible.
